Just Raid is prolly not the only reason for lag but mainly XSF filesystem flaws...

the quote from Loftar about Raid is on mid page 7 in that thread so you may look for the context ...

Could you please explain this in very simple terms. I have tried to google this filesystem thing and haven't gotten a clear understanding of what it is. Maybe a short explanation why its so hard to pinpoint the issue that causes the lag. All the explanations I find are some technical explanations with technical terms explaining other technical stuff.

The problem is it's technical and thus hard to explain in simple words...

You have a flat - one large room - now you may drop all your stuff just somewhere in that room - your brain holds the information at what spot you dropped what if you want to retrieve it again...not an easy task - that's why you do rooms with cups in it - to sort your stuff - so your brain can handle it easier...now imagine your flat is a computer, rooms are the harddisks and cups are folders - now there has to be a brain that knows where what is when needed - the filesystem... (very very simplified picture as the filesystem has lots more to do - like taking the part of your mom or gf reminding you to clean up :P )

RAID (redundant array of independent disks) is a type of hard drive setup used for backing up/mirroring data. It uses multiple harddrives and there are different types of RAID setups.

XFS is a filesystem. Filesystems are the format of how operating systems store data and organize it on the harddrive. For instance, Windows uses the shitty proprietary "NTFS" (New Technology Filesystem).

Thanks for the replys. Just wish Jorb would at least make a try at making the lag go away and give us a small bit of hope so the server wouldn't die off. I doubt he will pay for a server when the player base drops of to low.

Loftar is the one who'll have to fix it ;) and i am sure he will someday...there's a donate button - use it to help to pay running the server...

AFAIK in the beginning in W1 there where about 30 players - it's a hobby for Loftar and Jorb...

By far one of the best analogies I have seen to date. I used to use the example of a high rise building with different floors and rooms etc...people in them etc... I liiikey ... you get a hump hehehehehe

Oh oh and my simple answer would have just been turn off the porn and lag isn't so bad. Or else WATCH porn in between lag spikes then you will be happy and relaxed and kill less people and life will be wonderful. (goes back to her porn now.... IJS) :o

Ok so i know a little bit about servers and what not but here we go...

Wouldnt upping the ram and throwing a couple more hdd make the lag more bareable...

Or maybe do that and dump everything and restart the world?
