Current one (round, which would be better square), south-north one, which would be like 15 tiles long, 3 tiles wide and same one just west-east directional.

I'm afraid his change hurts only people that don't have bots, since botting ones will just bot forrest and bring logs to where they need to, so building them will just be small action.

Yeah I like this idea, also I was mining in a cave yesterday and didn't get any cave ins, just don't mine more then one tile deep.

Simply, why should i use metal to build a mine support, if i'm building a mine support so i can find metal?
And why i should use metal to build a hole mine when i'm building a hole mind So i can find metal?

Ther's the need of some way to build supports that don't requires metal, and in case all the caves will be claimed, ther's the need to build the first layer mine Without metal.
This sounds too easy probably, but pretend that one have metal when is searching for it, is a paradox.
Remove the metal from the mine, add something else to keep it hard to build. For example, create several hardened wood nails. To have hardened wooden nail, you need to burn a block for a certain amount of time and it become an hardened wood. After that, it will become coal.

It's boring to do, it need time BUT at lst it don't ask something that you're gonna take from the mine, once built.
We should consider that, later, most of the caves will be claimed and walled, so no more "free ore" for new players.

I would have them for at least starting off until I hit a proper vein, then the first thing I would do would be build better supports and knock the old ones out.
Sure, I too would have used them if I had nothing better. Though if they were implemented I would rather have it that they had a samller radius than the metal-supports, but still 100% certainty of no cave-ins.
I would love it to be 100% as well, but even with smaller radius, I simply don't see it happening (Not that any of this discussion really has potential to go very far other then the traditional "I'll make my own HnH! With Blackjack! And Hookers!" but comparing the technology, you're literally using tree trunks and rope to support tons of stone, something's bound to go wrong. It's why Coal mining was so dangerous in the first place.

There has never once been a problem with supports needing metal, why start complaining about it now?

Flame, did I miss something? mineholes don't require metal to build...

@Cornbread we're complaining now because we'll die trying to get metal to make supports when before there was a way to get metal to make them even before you had 1.

I haven't started mining yet in this world, but in all my previous experience, I have never been lucky enough to find a vein of any decent metal on the edge. Snake mining helped a bit with that, but even so, it's going to be interesting.

You could just prospect above ground and make a minehole over some ore.

don't know if I'd call it decent but last world I found q10 copper ore on the edge...its good enough for supports but not really decent ore. that was pure luck though!

All of my metals for the past 3 years have been buried deeper then the skeletons in a Catholic Priests' closet. I gave up on it after a while, but went back due to necessity. Also; Fucking iron man. It takes forever to find.

Well, it just needs bit more effort to start. There is lot of metals in cave-walls I'm sure, as it has always been. Thats why first comes first serves is a win-win combo. Once you get those few pieces out of walls you 1. already have a node, 2. got ore for at least 1-2bars = nugs for supporters.

Its just that with half-broken prospecting (well, i always manage to find the node but its painfull, probably jorb wants us to torture ourselves a bit) + building supporters like this its gonna be simply nightmare.

I still say this was needed, so we raise back price of gold and silver, which was too common in previous world(s).
