Finally getting my first trees, and one of my mulberry went from q13 to q17 during the last two growth stages (not the "mature" stage as that gains no Q, just starts regenerating product). I remembered it gaining Q, but couldn't recall how much. There you go. What exactly the growth range is would need some extensive study as I'm sure there's a formula for it, but you'll have to find people willing to risk stunting their trees to figure it out.

well i worked out 18q for my fir trees. Got 16,15,14. Wild animals can spawn in my palisade so they could be stunting the q a little. its difficult to tell :S

When we say "stunt the trees," it means they stop growing. They'll never get any bigger. Quality is fixed once you plant them and increases as the tree matures until it reaches its full value.

so why are my trees so varying in q? i dont think the formula is right then. all done with 50 farming

perhaps it is a little random now?

is -2;+5 fixated value or does it depend on soil quality just like when farming crops?

Each set has their own forest type, and trees grown on the correct forest type grow much faster (3 days on right, 2+ weeks for wrong type with birch trees for example)

that is what i had believed till very recently, however, is "yew", the new tree since this world, really native to coniferous forest tiles?

look at these.
yew trees 1.jpg

the same place as above
yew trees 2.jpg

the two small squares showing hitbox are of yews and big ones are of fir.
i use boshaw's mod to show the forest tile difference, and it seems yew trees made some tiles around into "broadleaf" forest tiles. that would explain why yew is taking forever to grow on coniferous forest tiles. i will try growing some yews on broadleaf tiles later and see what happens.

I also have planted some yew tree's in a conifer area, and checking some simple-map dumps of that area there where no Broadleaf ground tiles to be found.

I think its something else that's amiss here.
