What's the reputation of Sodom? Are they nice or are they assholes? I've found myself near their city (that is assuming someone didn't just steal the name) and am wondering if I should just book it past these guys or if I can take my time since I'm a vagrant atm.

The real sodom isn't playing this world. You've run into some group who stole their name.

What about Gomorrah? I'm just trying to find a place were the big griefer/thief towns won't bother me for a while.

walk(or ride) as far out into the middle of nowhere as you can go...that will buy you a few days before anyone bothers you.

I've never built a palisade along a cliff, probably going to do it soon but want to be sure that there are no easy ways to bypass your way in. Would this design be secure? yellow dots = the two initial cornerposts

No it isn't secure, the northern part you could walk by. If you need to be sure, you can place the initial cornerpost signpost to see if there are any gaps. I'm also going to advise you expand it larger than that. You never want to block yourself in, give yourself plenty of room so you don't need to worry about expansion later on.

I've never had success making a flush tight wall with anything but the downward (south/east) facing cliffs.

What's to keep him from building a second (or third) palisade layer later on? Better to start at a decent size, so you can secure yourself more quickly, than trying to wall in too much at once. Once you've established yourself, gathering the materials for palisades is quite easy.

So this would be secure then?
