It's showing my character age as two days, but I'm sure I've played a lot more than that. It also only recently changed from one to two. And I have over 1mil LP, and only about 20 bear kills.

Well, again; I'm really curious as to what alternative you would present. Should I leave every exploitable behavior in and never fix them? You might argue that I should have left it in until I fix archery and/or hunting, but even with that, it is supposed to be harder to hunt down animals than just shooting at them from a boat.

To be honest, I am quite amazed to see people complain about this change. Did you not react to this behavior being completely unreasonable in the first place? Did you really expect it to remain like that?

Unreasonable? I'm from the south US and trust me , ive been around hunters and farmers all my life and YES they sit on their asses in tree stands and boats and take down deers and boars with 2 shots of a composite bow!!! PLayers having to jump out of their boats, lose all their arrows, get lost from running halfway across a contenent chasing a "wounded animal" is way removed from reasonable..lol The whole thing that made this game so addictive was the fact that you could specialze, that you didn't HAVE to have a mine or gold plated armor to ALSO be able to make HQ cheeses and get decent skins or do nature things, That you chould choose paths (how exactly in the hell is a person who chooses full civ and nature suppose to now hunt reasonably with such low damage and so forth). Those of us who solo/nature and farm depended on being able to shoot mostly from the boat as we dont have melee, metal, and armor! (Like a hunter in the same situation in real life would do...lol) Now every animal I shoot at runs away after 2 shots, so fast ya never catch them and there goes my "Specialize on farming to make cheeses and trees" crap! NOw it's what? I'm suppose to spend all my points on unarmed combat.

truthfully, I think you see a problem where there is none. You "think" it "seems" unreasonable but in actuality in games...with gamers...you would hear many complaints about problems if there was one..yet on this issue i saw none. Your players were happy with the way it was and thats always a sign that one should not go dicking around with it. Not because they were "exploiting"...they were having fun and all seemed to work out fine for everyone of BOTH paths. So I didn't have melee, I dont have access to metal, I concentrated on nature/civ and saw i could still do many things and trade for a little metal here and there to make ebtter farming stuff and cellers and so forth (not weapons and armor because I am an archer). Now I cant kill a lvl 2 boar with 30 marksmanship because I can't run as fast as them when they take off...LOL Thats unreasonable.

For the first time in 2 months I can say last nght gaming session was not fun at all, Im chased into my cabin, grab my bow and go back out..pop pop and the baors gone at breakneck speed everytime. No skin , meat, replacement bones for arrows or intestines for my trouble. It was just tedious. At least before when Im chased out of my fields and into my cabin to have to put on my gear I got something for all the bother.

We do understand that this is an alpha, and thus in ever changing state. However, you could try to

a.)consider the order you implement the changes

Markmanship is now totally useless, until you do a larger combat rehash which many be months away. It used to be a skill people relied on, expecting it to be actually viable.

b.) consider what certain (unintended) behaviors actually indicate

Granted, it is very exploitive for players to fire at animals from boats (even though it works in real life to a degree). For one, it indicates the inherit problem in the hunting/combat system that warrants a fix. But it also shows the demand for high risk, high reward LP gain.

Sure, I could grind up my unarmed and melee skills and be (sort-of) able to grind bears again. Having recently died, this would take a whole lot of time via normal methods, plus it is extremely tedious since I've already done all of that previously.

You can look at the whole hunting situation as isolated case and act accordingly, but I'd say this is counterintuitive. What you should (from my point of view) be tackling is the LP system itself.

For me personally, the removal of his "exploit" unveils the ugly truth about the current state of the game. It is grindy and extremely tedious, giving little sense of progress once you get past the initial charm. With the bear exploit, at least I could feel that I'd gone somewhere after grinding bears for the whole evening.

Now with that sense of accomplishment removed, I have no reason to play the game in its current state. One can argue that it's no big loss, but there.

why dont you adjust to other circumstances in a change of behaviour? this complaining about changes makes me mad. theres new stuff almost every week and a major change of combat on its way (just takes some time) and still ppl complain about almost everything. it should be everyones goal to make the game better, which also means reasonable.
back in the old map, i spent 100 lp in marksman, cause i thought the damage would raise. didnt happen. so what? i changed to melee and im better off now. seriously, this map i fought myself up from a crappy axe, no armour and 1 melee to a bear-killing machine, without bows, and supplying myself with basically all i needed. it works, you can do it. but no, you only see "lplplp" everywhere, like it was heaven. i suggest to enjoy the game instead. and i dont want stupid animals.

You know there was a way to get this stats before boats were implemented. I didnt start grinding bears with 30 or 40 marksman. I made looms for some hours, then started with low level foxes for days, until i could survive some bear attacks so i could make a fence around them, until i realized its easier to make a fence aoround yourself. The latter was fixed, the first one not. However it got hard to kill foxes because there arent that many as before reset (because foresst is the standard tile now) but there are other ways to get lp now.

Yes, I've done the same myself. Now let's ask the question - does it make any sense?

Like said, I died and lost the fruits all of that grinding. I could do it again, but don't think that making people go through it is the devs intention.

In it's current state the game needs to have an alternative way to gain/recover LP faster. Bear grinding forced you to leave your town and spend hours in the wilds (and Sabi, that's the risk in it) so I think it is a good compromise enough for the current state of things. Serious downtime from productive activity v.s. radically increased LP gain.

Or do you think that grinding clay or building looms is the better way? And again, taking this from the perspective of someone who has already built his first (and second, and third and fourth...) set of everything, thus gained the LP from actually "playing the game".
