10 Strength and a q5 stone axe is all you need to start. The better you have, the more options you'll have, though.

As for curiosities, well, start with things you can get easily: cone cows, ants, and forageables you can easily find (dandelions, itsy bitsy spider and web). After you start getting a few skills and discovering a few things, you'll find some you can craft (Primitive dolls, bark boats).

It all depends on rock hardness. Although I must say that after checking 2 medium-sized caves we could find only a couple spots where we could mine with our ql 17 stone axes and 15 strength. And even those spots took like 50% stamina to finish single mining action.
Dunno, maybe we were just unlucky to get so hard rock everywhere

I mined my first ore(yes ore not a random spot on a cave wall even though it was only crappy tin) with 10 strength and a q5 stone axe. remember if something is too hard to mine, the square right next to it that you can mine will be really hard for you to mine. the farther you are from a hardness node the easier things are to mine.

read the red messages and they'll tell you which way to go(red is message, 2nd line is my advice for mining that area, 3rd line is what to do now):

You dont even manage to scratch that rock.
way too hard don't even bother testing it again for a while
walk 20 tiles away and hope for a different red message
That rock is very too much hard for you to mine.
still way too hard, get 20ish more strength and 10 higher tool quality before trying it again
keep walking that way because its getting softer
That rock is too much hard for you to mine.
test again when you get a better tool
this means you're going the right way, but not quite there
That rock is slightly too much hard for you to mine.
test again when you're stronger
almost found the edge of the hardness node(or atleast the part of it thats too hard for you)
That rock is little too hard for you to mine.
this means your mining ability(sqareroot of strength times tool quality) is 1 lower than whats needed to mine test when you improve tool or strength
if you go a bit farther in the direction you were going, you'll find a spot soft enough for you to mine, that spot will still be hard, and unless theres another hardness node in that direction going farther away means finding even softer spots to mine.

Hello All.

Really enjoying the game. My wife has now decided she needs to complicate HnH by deciding to play as well.... :D

How do we work the same claim together? We work different schedules sometimes.. is the only way we have access to each others claims is by forming a party??
I have seen the Enders claim management interface but honestly dont know if the answer is there or not btw Awesome Ender what a great enhancement to the game !!

Any information on spouse or buddies at work getting together on each others claims would be appreciated

Thanks

Mak

Set your partner in your kins list as a colour. Right click the claim and at the bottom of the menu and select whatever colour you set your partner to, now check mark trespassing, vandalism and theft.

If you don't have the colours shown in your claim menu, update your Ender's client and apply the fix (findable on his thread, located in the Wizard's Tower section of the forums).

Enjoy your time on Haven and Hearth, and have a nice day.

is it safe to snake mine near the edge of a mined out area?

ie: I had a mine support and mined all the ore it covered could I then go over a few spaces and mine in again to set a 2nd support?

@Lurkgod, 4 straight seems to be max, make sure you turn before doing a 5th(I usually do 3's)...and make sure if you mine toward the place you already have mined you don't accidently go over 5

You must not have more than 3 mined tiles on the 4 tiles behind your character, so, no.

Are you sure about this? Like, really, really sure? Can you point out where anyone has actually proven this?

The accepted method for snaking is mine two, turn, mine two, turn. Unless something was changed, I saw shots from w4 where two people were tunneling almost right on top of each other. I'm not sure if there was only one tile between the two tunnels, or upwards of about 3 or 4 tiles bewteen. It was zoomed out and hard to tell exactly. Also, it was on the first layer. The deeper you go, the greater the chances of cave-ins.

As ImAwesome pointed out, you can only go so far in a straight line. You can go forever if you snake without a cave in. However, nothing is guaranteed when mining without a support. And no, tiles are all identical. You can only tell when you go to dig it and get ore or stones.

If you plan on snaking out of an area you're going to mine out, it's suggested to snake a short distance (5-7 tiles should so) away from where the edge of the support will be before clearing out the area under a support.

guess its bad to not plan ahead...I didn't know how big the vein was, but I can overlap supports. thanks :x
