So I'm trying to mine for the first time, I read that W7 added a few changes to mining so I didn't know if the guides or the wiki were accurate. I found a cave, and I prospected and managed to find a node, or so I believe. The popup said "iron is below" would that mean the iron is on level 2? or is it a standard popup that means it's right in front of me? Also, I got hit by a cave-in thank God I didn't die and I wondered how you are supposed to mine for the first time without supports? Any help would be great thanks!

Prospecting finds ore on the level below you, so if you prospected inside the mine yes. It would be on level two.

Getting that first bar of metal can be a chore, but beyond trading for a bar of metal all you can do really is...

A) Mine, and hope you dont die
B) Use a suicidal alt to mine for those first few ore. Fit them with a bear cape and talisman, and the best axe you can make.

Well, a full tradition toon can use forge prayers to get nuggets. I've paid for several supports with forge prayers because I'm stupid that way. But yeah, if you made a mine hole I think you need to mine out one tile anyway to pave and then build a support. So you still need to beef up or use a disposable alt...

It will be the average (like if you have 5L inside and it's 50% done, you put 5L more and now it's 10L of 25% done)

Can you place anything other than animals on a raft? Such as logs or chests?
