probably the "End of the World" as Runestones called it in W5 - World Border North or South - as the later added Supergrids aren't updated on the World Map yet you can check whether the location where you encountered it is shown or not

In W5 there was a Harddisk accident which nuked some areas all around the world (overground and caves) those areas had such invisible borders aswell

No, stone quality doesn't improve damage. Arrow quality for bows does though.
