How many jars of rustroot extract should I have before starting to prospect?

Between 2-4 full jars of extract should find you at least one node. Bear in mind to test ar regular intervals and there is always a location to be found regardless of what it tells you on no minerals found.

Can you find an ore node without having to make a minehole (1e level)? Should i just prospect on the surface untill i got the desired metal and then try to navigate from the entrance of a cave to that direction?

Up to you. You can try it this way or you can randomly mine in caves until you find something. Even with the changes this world, I (so far) haven't had any issues with losing characters to L1 cave-ins.

edit: and even with a minehole, there is still a risk of a cave-in (not sure if bug or intentional and if bug, if it's been fixed). If you prospect to see if there's ore, you might not be able to get to it from the cave entrance.

A full fueled steel crucible, how long will it last withouth refilling when activated?

With a full fuel meter, the crucible will burn for 12 hours (real time).

Not such a simple question but, what could be a good gear set up for a lawspeaker? (mid q tier stuff)

I have a lawspeaker hat, and I was thinking of getting a heavy armor to protect myself, and maybe merchant or lawspeaker robes?

Lawspeaker robes are easier to get but Merchant robes are better.

You probably won't need much gear on him/her other than strong armor (be able to take a shot or two from a sniper if caught unawares). Why? Lawspeaker as a role should probably be an alt character on its own account whether your running a village or hermitting. This avoids the possibility of the lawspeaker dying. That's a huge pain to remedy if nobody is prepared for it.
