That's a cave-in. It occurs at times if you mine without having proper supports in the area. If a cave-in boulder is present on the screen while you're mining, you're more likely to cause another cave-in. These can kill you if they land on you. You can remove them with the adventure -> destroy command.

Why can i lift a full grown bear or a fully loaded boat but cant pick up a sheep or cow ?

Because sheep and cows, when you try to lift them, they fight back and jiggle around.
The hearthling is super strong, but it doesn't make him agile.
Boats and full grown bears are dead. Have you tried to lift a boat with a person inside it, or a live bear? I don't think so.
