When you smetl iron ore you get cast iron bar(s). If you forge those bars with coal in forges, you get bloom. When you hammer bloom with full industry guy you get out 80% of wrough and 20% of cast (aproximate), of which few bars (10%) can get 20% boost in quality or 20% degrade in quality.
Example:
q50 iron ore + q100 smelter + q150 coal = q87 cast iron
q87 cast iron + q100 coal + q100 forge = q87 bloom (while you throw slag away)
q87 bloom hammered with full industry char on q87 or higher anvil + hammer results in either: q87 wrough/cast, q69 wrough/cast or q104 wrough/cast.
Spiraling:
To get maximum out of yourself, you can spiral further. To do that you need to smelt iron ore, get cast iron. forge cast iron and get q87 bloom. Then instead of hammering it with full industry, hammer it with full nature character (his skills are not important, only full nature slider + anvilq and hammerq), so you get 100% cast bars out of it. This way you will get again some q104 bars, which will be all cast iron, meaning, you can put them in forges again with goodq coal, get q104 bloom and hammer again.
This way you can get q124 wrough/cast/steel bars out of q50 ore + q100 smelter + q150 coal + q100+ forge.
Ofcourse, with some work
