Found a mineshaft, thought it was abandoned and went inside. Someone had put a claim underground over the ladder. I do not have criminal acts turned on, did I leave a scent?

I have run into another problem where I cannot access the claim menu. I built a stake and right click it and nothing comes up. I use Ender's client but I tried the regular client as well and still nothing comes up.

Normally claim management (right click) shouldn't be a problem with default client (regular)

I believe that damage only is transmitted through a contiguous wall connection, not whether the wall is adjacent.

Correct, so you can't build a fence around a brickwall and break that to explode the bricks. =)
