It looks like I do not understand the quality of planted trees. I read the wiki entry on ringofbrodar.com and the formula for the quality of planted trees.
I have a treeplanters pot Q26, soil Q32, water Q23, herbalist table Q19 and a cone of Q15. Farming skill about 30. Yet the tree I got was Q14. How comes? I expected something like 28-25 !

( Qsoil * 1 + Qwater * 1 + Qpot * 2 + Qtable * 2 + Qseed * 9 ) / 15 = Qbase of tree (normal rounded) - 5 / + 2 is the actual formula.
so, (32+23+26*2+19*2+Q19*9)/15 -5/2
=32+23+52+38+171/15 -5/+2
=21 -5/+2
So your tree was bound to be Q 16-23, assuming the formula Xcom came up with was correct.

I need a lot of leather at this point, but I don't have any combat experience - unless you take into account running from ants -, so no hides so far.

Section 5b. It is a little dated, as Flex isn't as useful as it used to be (gives your opponent advantage now).

For a fox you want atleast 30 Unarmed combat and enough basic skills to balance attack, defense, IP, and advantage in battle. If you don't know what any of these are, then stick to rabbits, get 2 leather for a sling, and hunt from a boat with the sling.

You want 40 ua if you dont have float like a butterfly.

Marksmanship is definitely the way to go for hunting, yeah.
