Do you think ranged would be a better way to go? It seems cheaper LP wise.

Early on it is much more lp efficient to go with range. When you've got yourself a consistent food source and feel a bit settled you could move into hth combat for hunting. =)

To add onto what Nini said, you need 12.5% less food if you drink some wine, no matter what the quality, because of what he said. This has nothing to do with the wine itself it just has to do with the fact it counts as food.

I decided to go for ranged and got myself a sling, but I'm not quite sure how to use it.

Using "shoot" and selecting a target shows a bar, but it doesn't fill up and clicking again is always a miss. What should I do?

Get a sling quality 4 or more. Target a static target. Get closer to the static target. Be patient. Raise your marksmanship higher, and always have a sling at least the quality 0.5xmarksmanship.

Every time you're hit by a damaging(I don't think moves/special moves affect it?) your aim will be reset. To safely kill animals early game, shoot at them from a boat, or trap them.
For Auroch and Mouflon use signposts(a roundpole fence construction sight with one stick in it).
For Foxes you've to make a rolepole fence(they can break signs).
Everything else can't be trapped without going to a lot of effort, however, animals will not break whatever's trapping them if they're fleeing.

I'd recommend just hunting from a boat and googling twitch hunting.

Does it still work? I'm trying right now, but when I get a good hit they run. Also, is it supposed to take forever?
