it takes a while to get a full bar when you're low mm
I'd recomend getting atleast 50mm and buying a bow (they're pretty cheap) with a decent arrow you should be able to 1 hit foxes

How do I wear spectacles? Do I have to craft them? I found a pair on an abandoned village and can't seem to wear it.

Edit: Nvm, apparently you can't use glasses and a necklace at the same time.

they go in slot R1, so you need to take off anything that you're wearing there.

Does the quality of gauze effect anything? My googling leads me to believe it doesn't

I'm finally to the stage where I got livestock. I've read the wiki but I still have some questions. The wiki warns you to leave enough milk for the calf to drink but how do you determine how much milk you can take off a cow?

Does forcing a mating pair in a more confined space cause them to mate faster? This game has its quirks so is it possible for a pair to mate through an obstacle like a roundpole fence?

Edit: If I'm attempting to mate a pair and one is currently q87 (where is says quality:87 in bottom right corner) and one that is 17 should I wait until their both similar qualities or not bother since I'll end up there but now I'll have more calfs?

Gauze quality does not affect anything anymore, I believe.

I can't recall how much milk calves drink anymore but it's somewhere equal to or less than 0.1 liters every 10 minutes. I believe it was around 0.05 liters every 10 minutes but I'm not certain about that at all.

Animals can mate between fences. Do not assume a roundpole fence will stop their humping. More confined spaces make it more likely that they will mate, yes.

All stats on the animals play into the quality of the animal. Food quality (the quality at the bottom) cannot raise the quality of an animal but it can reduce the values of any of the animal's qualities if food quality is lower than the animal's quality. There's no point in waiting as that will accomplish nothing. Breed and then pick out the best specimens and keep breeding.

On which part of it? Mating through fences or being within more confined areas increasing likelihood of mating?

I thought it was common knowledge that animals seem to mate within a certain distance of one another. Pregnancies seemed to occur if the animals are within a tile of one another, even if they were locked in a fence gate and a bull/cow was just being pulled along to be relocated or if a round pole fence was being used as a divider. I have theorized that they have a radius that constitutes contact if it overlaps as direct contact does not seem to be necessary, similar to feeding via troughs and milk barrels.

As for closer quarters increasing the odds of a child, I have no definitive proof of that but it follows logic that the more often that animals are within mating distance of each other, the more likely they are to mate.

when i separated them with cellar rocks, chairs, and other obstacles they never got pregnant, but that is just my experience. i think fences stopped that too but havent tried in recent worlds. but then, i know "never experienced myself so it never happens" is not a confirmation.
also, some people tend to think they are mating only because they got new borns after separating them, but many times (afaik) they had already mated before separation.

thought we talked about this pretty recently.

p.s.
also, mate-hungry bulls and male pigs RUSH decent distance(like 2 screens of default) to an available female when they feel like it. at least thats my experience. and i can never reach them to stop them once they decided to do it.

I think it's because you are too close to the corner post - you can use the shift key to place it more accurately.
