bad example

it can be locked untill the next cliff bug is discovered.
i wouldnt recommend using cliffs, but you can check with roundpole fence signs.
if its your first time building walls, try building roundpole fences first.

I'm not exactly sure but if you have the survival to gather q24 and the wax comes out 19 we know its not survival. Maybe cooking? or a combination of cooking and perception.

^^

Makes logical sense, making wax out of berries requires finger strength.
Of another era.

Why is it so hard to dig for clay? Most places give no clay, some give just 1 clay unit. Once in a while I come across a spot that gives a lot of clay.

I wonder if the good spots for clay follow some logic... if there is a way to see if the spot is a good one. (except digging there of course)

Nope. Just dig.

As I imagined... and what determines the quality of the clay I dig?

There are quality layers/points for every node that were randomly created at world generation.
There's some crossover, like fishQ=musselQ, soilQ=foragableQ.

Clay quality nodes increase the amount of clay in the area, the more clay you dig the lower the quality will go, down to 10, after which it will disappear .
It will slowly regenerate and is hardcapped by survival.

In your search for clay, don't forget to check river shallows.

pr0 tipz 1: if you want a massive amount of clay, but don't care about quality, dig on an alt with 10 survival, you'll get more clay.
pr0 tipz 2: The quality point of a node is ALWAYS where four grids meet.
