You need to use bucket (pick it with left click) on kuksa (right click it with bucket on your cursor) not the another way around. With barrel you left-click kuksa and right-click barrel.

And another issue: i want to build a house by the side of another one i already built. I already left a 7x7 paved space and already checked, it is all paved. and there's nothing on the way. (i can't hide the tree with my Ender's client. it keeps showing, but I checked and no sillhouette is highlighted behind the tree)

Is there a restriction for building houses too close one to another, or tiles need to be clear in a 1 square offset, or certainly there's something behind the tree and I didn't remove it?

(i don't want to remove the tree, I like it there :3
and if I seccessfully paved that tile and achieved a 7x7 square, the tree shouldn't be a problem there, should it?)

i cannot tell from the screenshot you posted, but
control+N for night vision
control+H for hiding
control+G for showing grid
try all the three above and see if it helps.
otherwise, maybe your own char is in the way. try to place the construction sign from far enough.
and the tree shouldnt be the problem as i see it.

I think there is one unpaved tile. It is behind the tree just above half its height.

I didn't have that much to start off with, that plus the inheritance... I have 18 con

18 is plenty with the flask bug

You could also buy a ferryman ring. Most developed players would be more than happy to swap one for a few edels

No, there's no mechanic, you give each other the items.

how exactly? just drop it and hope they drop what they offered before they grab your stuff and leave?
