I'm also beginning to think it's +5, -5 because i've had trees drop way further then they should considering other, same quality trees came out way higher with the same table, soil, water pots.

afaik, there never was an accurate tree formula discovered, but the one on wiki was the closest it could be, at least that is what i heard and read. i even had one with -9 or so.

not sure if carpentry softcaps it, because my tree farmer has only about 40 carpentry and the record doesnt seem to show any influence. it is possible that survival level has something to do with tree q, because my result is getting closer to what the formula says as i have raised survival higher for soil. we didnt have this survival cap till this world, so it is fairly possible it is the cause of the difference this world.

Thing is, i'm planting q100+ trees with a char with 1 surv. If it was a softcap, there'd be a pretty significant difference there.

Thank you.

Are all the other stats of that tree planting character also at rock bottom ?
That way the tree planting part can be definitely and completely scrapped as a variable in the tree-process. (for now ...)

Sadly it's pretty much a jack of all trades character short of the survival, so i can't rule anything else out.

Forest turning into grass

Postby Dolby3d » Sat Sep 28, 2013 1:35 pm

So according to the wiki trees on forest terrain take much longer to grow on alien terrain and since the ground around and inside my claim is turning into grass, how can i keep planting fir/pine trees without having to wait like 2 more weeks? Is it possible to revert it to forest or should i instead start planting oaks?

Ground tiles do not degrade to grass unless it is so far away from a tree (iirc, 10 tiles around trees will not degrade)

Only real way to keep degradation from becoming an issue is to just leave a few trees around the area. Its a pain in the ass to reconvert grass to forest, as the only way to spread forest tiles is to plant trees. They will spread 0-2 forest tiles every time it changes stage.

Why are you asking about Oak trees though? They need forest tiles just like every other tree.

no trees are native to grassland terrain, though some do grow in different biomes too. itll take you a while to grow any trees on grassland.
all trees are native to either "leaf tree"(broadleaf) tiles or "needle tree"(coniferous) tiles.
