It'd stop grass from spreading but forest tiles can spontaneously turn into grassland if a tree is not keeping them forest.

4. For butchered bear goods, you probably need to first check out some trade threads to understand the base quality they will accept.

Honestly, you're better off finding villages that will buy the whole bear carcass and letting them butcher themselves. Some places are short hunters, but a single person can butcher dozens of animals an hour. You've only got a short while to make a trade, though, before it decays too much (or to a skeleton), so get buyers lined up beforehand. Odds are they'll have better tools and better survival than you have.
