What to do about animal levels?

Animal levels are out of whack since wilderness spawns. You now basically have to grind up to the point where you are able to take out level ten kritters, when the whole system is designed on the premise that you should be faced with incrementally increasing levels of danger.
What I would like to do as a first step is to, quite simply, remove animal levels. I'm thinking that the foxes could be fixed on about their present level four level of danger, the boars at present level seven, and the bears at present level ten. -snip- The quality on the animals would then be a different matter altogether, namely determined by map quality points much like everything else. I've noticed when fighting ants that I, under the present fighting system, have been able to fight them since about level 7-9, started winning consistently at maybe 10-15, and more or less trash them since I got bloodlust and unarmed level 30. I'm waiting for the magical moment when I can one-shot them. I estimate that I would need around 50 to handle the foxes as they are now implemented.
-snip-
Anyways:
More realistic.
Does not compromise the wilderness spawns.
Hopefully leaves some level of danger in the wilderness.
Allows me to actually use my fighting skills on anything above ants.
The one potential issue I see with the system is that it does not allow for infinitely more challenging creatures, but, on the other hand, neither does the level system.

i've dropped it here for now
