Would it be a good idea to put a key alt in a spruce bed or something beside the gate or is that:
1: Unnecessary and redundant or
2: Still not safe enough

I'm still not 100% sure about how the logging out system works.

Just log your key alt out some place safe, preferably inside walled area. Only log that alt in when you absolutely have to. If you don't have a village idol to fast travel out make it a priority.

If I destroy village Idol what happens to Crossroad on the village claim? If I build new idol will crossroad become usable again?

Borka is correct. Crossroads are only bound to village idols by the village claim. If the old claim is removed and a new one placed over it you can use them.

I picked up two scents on a friend's plot: one trespassing, one theft. As I picked up theft, the green cloud turned purple and the scent I got appeared as a regular tress, both with the same decay (9) even though they were committed very recently. However, it still had all the options theft does. I picked it up again and still got tress-image, tress-decay rate, but theft options.

Reloading the area made the cloud turn green again but I didn't pick it up a third time to confirm.

My question: is there anything anyone wants to share about this?

If you saw that kind of banner in screenshot it was probably graphics mod.

I unwillingly dropped my boat on a village claim and now I seem unable to either lift the boat again or get access to my crates inside. Any less obvious way to get my things back? It's a large village claim and I can't figure out who I could try to contact in-game about this (seems a challenge too). Thank you.

I'm annoyed at myself. I am in the habit of dying in all the ways we are warned about in guides & wiki (despite being aware of them), and I also am in the habit of losing crates containing my inheritance(s). I had another crate "floating" on deep water earlier today.

I have done that, dropping my boat to do something and realise that I am walking on a claim. Often I just "steal" the boat back despite leaving theft scent. Once it turned out to be bit of an inconvinience (I did not die but coudln't leave my HF to convinient location) resulting innocent bull to be turned into q4 beef instead of wagonpuller.

try jumping back into your boat first if nobody hasnt got into it yet.
