no (well yes, but very very slow..) , and the animal recovery DEF/ATK not matter if u are on fight with him or not.

I'm not sure it does. Everything i've been told or read has mentioned it needing FEP's

It wouldn't be hard to check this. These provide minimal hunger fill and you could easily check your FEP requirements before and after you ate one. (I do want to say yes, but I don't recall, and don't want to mislead anyone.)
