I know the wiki, but i'm aware it's kind of outdated sometimes, that's why i wanted to know if anyone has up-to-date info or can confirm what's in the wiki. Also, anyone have a better description of the growth rates for trees, in both terrain types?

The wiki is rather correct in this case. There are no exact times for tree growth. It all has a bit of random chance to growth ticks. Growth can be approximated but then again it could take months for a tree to grow. If there is any obstruction near the tree it may never grow.

As for terrain types Im not sure which your asking. There is grassland, moor, heath, broadleaf forest, and pine forest to grow in. If you have a specific question of those ask. However in general its best to grow tree in their native soils. The wiki Borka listed will tell you that.

On your original question on tree planting area it all depends on the tree. Some have larger growing areas an it depends on how you plant them.

By "both terrain types" i mean native and non-native, which the description in the wiki is sadly lacking in most cases. But thanks for all the help, both of you. I'll set 5x5 grids for all my trees.

The growth stages from sprout to 4 or 5 (depends on tree) are fixed, and are listed for many of the trees on native terrain. The trees that don't have times filled in generally aren't grown by farmers because they aren't as useful. (Usually just used for decoration, such as a willow or pine). The final stage to full sized is random, though. Growth times on non-native terrain are a multiplier, if I were to take a stab at it. It's been a while as I usually set up a pine forest and deciduous forest area in my farm. Once that set for each, you don't have to deal with it ever again.

The wiki says to make sure 5 spaces are between your trees. In my personal experience I know that medium sized trees (in this case fir) will fully mature with as little as 2 spaces between them. you must however make sure that they are perfectly centered when planting. If they aren't then you can stunt some of them. http://i.imgur.com/VwcfMgt.png

Does any1 happen to have any idea of the tree quality formula (wiki is wrong), I'm guessing the seed has been given a bit more weighting this world?

Or maybe just -2/+10 now instead of +5, that seems to work...

This is the formula I use that I got from Xcom in my spreadsheet and its accurate to +/- 1.

( Qsoil * 6 + Qwater * 6 + Qpot * 10 + Qtable * 10 + Qseed * 48 ) / 80 = Qbase of tree (rounded down) + range: -5 / +2

I've seen that formula (I always start by searching for xcom's posts when i have this kind of q!), but it doesn't work, I'm out by 3 on it atm. Gets less accurate as numbers get higher.. Have tried tweeking it and resolving for the values I'm getting but can't get that type of formula to match up properly, think it is something completely different.
