Villages and inviting members

Straight to the point, I want to add a friend of mine who is far away from my village at the moment. I'm the lawspeaker, so how do vow him in without seeing him? Is it possible to do this from the kin menu or do I need a special structure for something like this?

party him from kin list and swear in the party portrait.
