Killing deer? healing?

Is it possible to kill adeer with a sling/bow?
I trapped a deer but every time I hit him he sparkles and a high remember appears. Is he healing himself?

yes, he's healing himself. you need to do a lot of damage to take it down. either a high quality sling, or a group of people.

High MM for faster reloading helps as well.
