Continuing a road (Milestones)

Postby karmov » Tue Aug 03, 2010 2:09 am

So a neighbour of mine set up a road using milestones some time ago. It's been very useful and I've started extending by laying some paved stone. Now I want to extend the road so I go to the last mini-milestone, right click and "Extend" is one of the options. If I click it, I can create a new mini-milestone. The only problem is that when I do, the road doesn't extend and the new mini-milestone seems to be a road of its own. The only option on it is "Extend" when I right click on it.

I thought I might have built it too far from the last one (though I was careful to keep it a bit closer than the average spacing) so I destroyed it, tried again and built it much closer (I can easily see both milestones in the same screen). Same result.

What am I missing?

After building the new milestone, you need to use the road sign to connect them.

Well here's what I've tried. I go back to the big stone and get a sign. I type in the same name as the name on the rest of the road, in this case "Way". I repeat and end up with a few signs that say "Road Sign: Way". I go back to the end of the road, pick up a sign and try to right click on the small milestone that only has "extend" as an option. Nothing happens. I also tried going to the last milestone in the road, selecting extend from the options and building a new milestone with signs in my backpack, but nothing happens there either.

I think where I'm stuck is how do you "use" a sign on a milestone?

I found my answer on IRC last night. Apparently what had happened was the previous owner connected the last milestone to itself. That meant that when you walked to the end of the road, it automatically turned you around and sent you back the way you came. The problem with this is that it makes it impossible to extend this road. I had to go back and start up a new road from the original large milestone.

I hope this helps anyone who searches the forum for this kind of problem in the future.
