Armor class, HOW DOES IT EVEN WORK?

Postby Deadlift_pro » Sat Aug 07, 2010 5:21 pm

I don't quite understand how armor class works in this game, search has provided nothing of use to me, anyone care to explain how AC factors in, I'm aware that its a sort of soak from damage you would usually take.

From top to bottom: 62 steel chest, 82 bronze, 70 wrought helmet. Whats with the higher number on the left, I thought right was total AC for a certain item?

Unfortunately, from what I've seen in game, this info is pretty outdated and at least partially incorrect. I've noticed plenty of occasions recently where I would take a couple points of both SHP and HHP damage, yet my armor HP didn't change at all. According to the formula on the wiki, that should never happen. Also, how exactly does all this interact with the defense meter and HHP/SHP damage?

The wiki entry was last updated in December of 2009 and uses some strange values for AC (1/2 leather armor?). Something has to have changed since then.

If you are 'moving' none of your armor counts, it's negated....

Unarmed attacks partially bypass armour.

No, that is not true; it is only the defense bar which is negated.

Indeed. Since the new combat system, every attack has a certain armor penetration value, with unarmed attacks usually having larger such than melee attacks. It does strike me that the exact values probably aren't documented anywhere, though.

Loftar, I thought only unarmed bypass armor and I do recall an update that makes sword no longer bypass too.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.

Not by necessity, at least; but perhaps on principle. I don't remember, TBT. :)

How about ranged attacks? Are they just by rule of thumb going to tickle armored targets or at some point do they hit hard enough to penetrate?

Well, yes; if they do enough damage, they "penetrate" the armor just like any other attack.
