Time limit on corpse looting?

A friend of mine was killed in the middle of his walled town whilst carrying some metal.

Is there a time limit on how long a corpse can be looted as we don't seem to be able to interact with the corpse (even with the stealing skill and criminal acts turned on).


Also, his hearth was destroyed, can that be done from outside the palisade? Could someone break down for me exactly how summoning someone to their hearth works? Do you need to be next to it, or just in the same screen? and do you need to be near a hearthfire to destroy it?

Before anyone asks, yes, he probably did deserve to be killed. Just wondering how.

Had the corpse been skeletized? In that case, his equipment and inventory were scattered around him when that happened (and probably disappeared since).

If not, then I see no reason whatsoever why you shouldn't be able to take his stuff.
