Deer hunting

Hello,
I was wondering if perhaps there is a method of finding Deer herds. It seems at random and fairly rare to ever find them personally. Is there a preferred terrain they have? Do they spawn more frequently at night or day?

P.S. I am well aware of the annoying self heal. I can handle it.

Broadleaf and Conifer forests mainly. They usually spawn in herds though I have seen the lone deer every once in awhile. I don't know if day and night has any effect on when they spawn but coincidentally I've only come across deer during the day.

Yeah personally I felt like I saw them mostly during the night. Course, it tends to always feel like its night when ever I'm playing.... Kinda annoying. Guess I'll just chalk it up to coincidence.

I've never noticed a difference between day/night, but they spawn on broadleaf/conifer forest (haven't noticed a preference between broadleaf and conifer either).

They're not that rare, sometimes you just get unlucky :/
