At an impasse on farming. o.O

Postby Totentag » Wed Aug 11, 2010 10:22 am

I understand I need to find windsown seeds or however it's spelled. =P And dry them on a drying rack, and then take them to an herbalist table... My question is, without the plant fibres I get from farming flax or hemp, how do I build an herbalist table? Is there a step the Wiki didn't give me?

You misunderstood the wiki, you can dry them on Either the drying rack Or the herbalist table. They dry twice as fast on the herbalist table but you can just use the drying rack if that's not available to you. So just find some, put them on a drying rack, and you'll have seeds available in 8 hours =)

Ah, okay! =D Thanks a lot. Now I just have to LP whore enough to get my Exploration up. =P

On that note, I read that perception helps raise your chances of finding good things while foraging, but I have yet to find any foods that give perception. What are a few that are easy enough for a newb to get ahold of? =P

Good FEP foods are a tad difficult to get your hands on as a newbie because, well, everything is. Your best bet would be carrots:

And you are correct, the formula for finding foragables is Perception x Exploration so raising either helps loads. It's not terribly expensive to begin seeing WWWs, just 6 exploration at 10 perception.

Hah, alrighty. Well, I've got my exploration up to ten now, but I have yet to find anything I can eat to raise my perception. Is it possible to find WWW's with only raising your exploration? I'm wretched with math, so the formulas only serve to confuse me. =P

Yes, you should be able to see them now, only rarely though. They start showing if you have 6 exploration or more, even if you never raised your perception. Raise your exploration/perception even more and you will spot them more often.

Once you get exploration to over 15 you'll be seeing them everywhere.

Also many foods come from stuff you grow from those seeds. So you won't find many foods on the ground but once you grow the seeds you find you can make foods from them ie. wheat. Or just eat them straight, ie. Carrots and peas. Farming is also useful for getting LP. Plus so many biproducts such as straw, etc. Good luck and hope you don't start getting hundreds of hops cones.

EDIT: Add to that; you need to find Wild Windsown Weeds over a large area. Ones found near each other tend to produce the same seeds. Therefore, if you only search the area immediately adjacent to your house then you will only ever have one crop type.

You can also try and catch some Plaice with a q10 fishing pole, q10 line, q10 bone hook and q10 lure (woodfish, pine cone plug, rock lobster). At night seems to have the best results, just keep trying different lures at different moon phases, but make sure not to have materials on your fishing gear exceed q10, else, no more Plaice... ever.

Also I'd suggest fishing in a lake if you really aim for plaice. I've never caught plaice in a river but pretty often in lakes.

You can use spinly taps and nettle as plant fibres to build your first herb. table too
