Lvl X and You.

So most of the creatures in my area are lvl 10, and i've had zero to no luck in melee combat with them
what stats would you suggest?

dont even bother attacking level x animals without decent armor and at least 60+ of your combat stat of choice.

Yeah some good armor and stats would not go a miss. But if you have some friends with decent stats aswell ye could both hunt together (both around 40 for X fox)

Scythe has no effect on combat. If you are melee based, use the maneuver Shield and keep it there. 35 is just enough to combat a lvl X fox but it may take a while. Did you take a look at my combat guide, yet?
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

I have indeed sir, very helpful
I have a grasp on how the system works, and generally make it do what i want, but i can't hit hard enough to break the defense meter on the animals, and they usually gain the advantage quickly

I need tips on controlling the flow of battle more effectivly.
always practicing of course.
so many boots lost.

Don't even try hitting until you get full advantage. Invocation of the Skuld is the best move for this, if you have it. Use Charge for getting the init (it has the shortest cooldown). Use slide for getting your defence up (you need to have offence for it to work). Use Flex to raise offence. The goal at first is to just gather init and not get hit, but you should raise advantage ASAP so you lose less defence. Once you have full advantage and enough init for 3-4 hits, plus 6 for flexing, start attacking. Flex to full offence, then hit, rinse and repeat. I recommend Chop for depleting the defence, and once it's low switch to Cleave.
