Weapons

Postby kobnach » Fri Jul 24, 2009 6:41 am

I'm hearing mutually contradictory things about weapons, in particular (1) that 12th bay axes are (a) no better than other weapons and (b) the best weapon and (2) soldiers swords are (a) the best sword and (b) do no more damage than militia swords. So, what can folks tell me about the pros and cons of each weapon:

- stone axe
- militia sword
- soldier's sword
- 12th bay axe

One would think the above list would be in order of increasing effectiveness, since it is in order of increasing cost. But is it?

Likewise, what's the effective difference between
- standard bow
- ranger's bow

Thank you.

1. A stone axe is slow, has low accuracy, but deals pretty much the same amount of damage as a militia sword. Plus, it's the easiest weapon to make.
2. A militia sword gives approximately +10 damage, and is semi-accurate.
3. Soldier's sword deals approximately twice as much damage as a militia sword.
4. The 12th Bay Axe gives around +50 damage, but is slower than sword, costs much more, and uses both hands - which prevents you from using a shield.

Using a weapon also gives you the ability to use more instance attacks.
Valorious strike deals damage, has high accuracy, and gives initiative(Sword or Axe)
Storm of swords which allows you to attack ~4x with no cool-down (Sword only)
Cleave deals ~3x normal damage (Axe only)

Chop is slower than sting, which is slower than punch.

The ranger's bow deals more damage (+5 I think) than a standard bow.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

I just tested this myself:
(total damage)
Stone axe: 34 damage
Militia Sword: 28 damage
Steel Sword: 36 damage

I think Jorb said something about weapons using % for a part of the damage dealt and a set damage.

The regular bow does (if memory serves) 18 damage. The ranger's bow does a whopping 23. So, Blaze is right.

Can anyone add to this the hard and fast on weapon base damage vs strength damage?

is it:
Weapon base + (strength/strength mod)
or weapon base * (strength/strength mod)
or something completely different?

I do know that your additional damage is your str/3. So if the militia sword deals 10 base, plus your starting 3 additional, it's 13 damage.
