Where can i find spindly taproot?

Postby Xgflame » Thu Aug 26, 2010 10:55 pm

I've got the foraging skill. And i only need to find some spindly taproot so i can start hunting/fishing. The wiki says forest area, but i've had no luck checking while searching for it in my surrounding forest area.

I must ask politely that you localize your questions. There are guides that answer these kinds of questions as well as the wiki, so please be mindful of these resources as well. To answer your question, just walk around more. You'll see it sometimes every once in awhile. It's just a brown vine-like object on the ground that can be right clicked. If you check the wiki, you can even find a picture.

If you're not finding any, you're not exploring enough, don't be confined to a small area.

While having an (Exploration x Perception) = 10 allows you to begin seeing taproots, I should note that you are more likely with higher perception. From what loftar has noted on the forums before, while you can Sometimes see foragables at 50% of their base (Implying that 20 is the actual difficulty of taproots), you can see them all once you have double their requirement. Although this was directed at Rustroot rather than taproot, it is possible to infer that this simple idea applies.

So Taproots likely have a difficulty of 20. While you see some of them at 10, you'll see them all at 40. So by increasing your Exploration to 4 (Hell, even 2 would help a lot), you'll see loads more taproots.

So my exploration should be at least 2? Alright then. Lots of things to do for the learning points then.

You might be trying things above your level. First thing I did was make a little camp and gather a load of basic food (i.e. chicken, rabbit, blueberries). Then it's easier to find things like taproots as you can put levels into the relevant skills.

It's very much so possible to start out fishing given a bit of determination and understanding of the game. Also a bit of luck to be close to a fishing spot (but these are pretty common so not too much luck). The only issue with it is that it does take some a few skills and materials that seem like daunting tasks to new players. Bones, String, and Woodfish are luxuries that older players forget new players have difficult access to.

True, but I just think it's too complicated to immediately jump into. Get a very basic understanding of the game and use foraging/hunting for your food, imo.. move onto fishing when you have a little camp and a small collection of materials e.g. bones, feathers, and a reserve food store.
