Chicken run

Postby Ark » Fri Aug 27, 2010 12:01 pm

Hi there. I was wondering what is the best way to travel long distances without losing your long-reared chicken?
We are planning a long haul /raft+ wagon/ which will certainly take some time. Chicken put in containers will be certainly dead by then. It's something like 8 hours it takes for them to die without food.
Eggs are not an option either, as far as I understand. When the white timer-thing around the egg disappears it seems no hen living in world 3 can make em hatch.
So do you have any ideas? We don't know whether there will be crossroads on our way and don't want to lose our adored ~q50-ish chicks.

Leave lots of seeds in cupboards and make a second account with a character that stays near the coops. Log into that one only to feed your chicken. It doesn't require any character skills to put food into chicken coops IIRC.

The thing is we need to travel WITH the chicks. Since our point of destination is very far away and we'll be staying there. So we're taking our possessions with us, chicken included. But I'm afraid they'll not survive the travel. Since we are traveling far we'll most probably not have enough agi to return and pick em up.
The only thing I came with so far is taking some straw, building a hoop somewhere in the middle of our way and waiting for chicken to feed.

Oh I see, I read that wrong. I'm not sure if it really only takes 8 hours for them to starve, I always thought it was longer.

Hmm... what about little chicks? Do they starve, too?

I'm pretty sure it's closer to 24 hours for chickens to starve. At least that one time I had a couple in my cupboard, before I had a coop, they stayed put for at least a day.
If you're worried, yes. Take some straw and build a coop.

There are a couple of tricks you can use to fast travel as far as you want regardless of AGI, such as traveling to village idol when you have no hearth fire, and summonporting. So you can get away with leaving an alt to mind the chickens and then port them over when you reach your destination.

This, is the only way to properly do it if you don't want to risk your chickens.

summonporting

Please elaborate? Does this involve scents?

Whoa. That's something new for me. It seems that I understand the rough concept, but can't quite grasp the details. Can you please be a bit more specific?

In my case we need to get from village A to an abandoned village B left to us by a friend. They are a couple of sypergrids away from each other. We can have alts in both and build different stuff, but need to get our posessions and main chars /poor agi-wise/ to B.

If you don't have a hearth fire you can always travel to your village idol regardless of how much travel weariness it takes, the same way you can normally always travel to your HF. So if you swear a character into village B, then destroy his HF, he can get to the village across any distance.
