does quality of mulberry leaves effect the quality of silkworms that eat them?

If I'm not mistaken, yes, the quality of the leaves is very important: every time a worm eats, its quality shifts towards that of the leaves it eats. So if leaves are of a higher level, you get better silkworms.

Might be. Just repeating what I read somewhere (Probably the wiki), to be honest.

Going a bit off-topic here, but what exactly does this community's definition of "softcap" entail? It seems somewhat different than what I'm used to.

to be honest i haven't done silk since quality was introduced, but i know that mulberry leaf quality matters, just not sure on the exact mechanic.

softcap means that it is averaged down to the limiter, rather than a hardcap, which is simply cut off at the limiter. for example, farming softcaps the quality of seeds that you can harvest, so if the crop is q100, and you have 1 farming, when you harvest it would be averaged down to your farming skill, giving you q50 seed. most of the crafting system works with softcaps.

Ah, thanks. It is different.

Anyway, I think that is how silkworms and mulberry work: worm eats a leaf, than its quality is averaged with that of the leaf and can go both up and down this way.

Silkworms do not increase quality from mulberry leaves. If one eats a mulberry leaf of the same quality or higher, it stays at the same quality. If a silkworm eats a lower quality leaf, it loses quality, although I am not sure how much.

When a male and female silkmoth breed the resulting quality of the eggs seems to be +/-5 from the average of the parents.

Yea i'm the same. Before I came here softcap meant either diminishing returns or simply no bonus after that the cap.

Or, if talking about something you can raise, like a skill, that you can't get it past a certain point naturally, but can with buffs, equipment and the like. It's quite interesting how different communities adopt the same terms to have different meanings.
What were we talking about, again?
