Where is everyone?

I'm logged in and it says I'm the only person in the world. What gives?

Where exactly is it telling you that you're the only person playing? If you're using Pacho's client you'll be able to see others in chat and the website never reports fewer than 150 players (I saw it at like 7 once right after a reboot but that was as close as it got) on at a time. The issue is just that the world is big and you've probably only explored a stones throw in front of you.

He sees it in his kinlist. When you got nobody kinned it says: You are alone in the world. Which is of course not true, just look out for settlements in the area surrounding you.

I've traveled pretty far on foot and on a boat I found. I've found evidence of people--houses, etc. But I have yet to run into a single soul. Is it because I picked the wrong wilderness location to spawn at? (Ironwall or something)

Should I use a different client?

You'll see many abandoned places before you see just one person. I took a 6 hour trip to the south once and only saw 2 people during the entire thing.
The world is huge. And client doesn't matter. Certain area's are more populated then others.
