Seed quality not improving.

I've been farming flax seeds for a while now and i'm still getting quality 1 seeds from a couple flax plants. My farming is 3 (Not sure what attribute it's multiplied by for quality) so what's the problem?

Get higher farming and a strawhat. Much higher farming. Each time you harvest the grown crops they have a +/- of up to 5 in quality change but if you're incapable of harvesting that, then you'll still get your low q seeds. Why all of your seeds are q1 is beyond me -- maybe you made them negative some how and the game doesn't know how to show anything below 1?

What lowers the quality of seeds? I understand level 3 farming is very low, but i shouldn't be producing quality 1 seeds right? I forgot to mention that a few other flax plants are producing 3 and above quality seeds. Does the quality of the seeds rely solely on the plant they came from or what?

It's random if the harvested seeds are lower or higher than the Q you planted. If you plant a Q7 seed then the harvested seeds can range from Q2 to Q12. So make sure you sort your seeds after harvesting and only plant the highest Q ones. And raise your farming skill.

That answers the question perfectly then. Yes, the quality of your future seeds are dependent on your current plant qualities as well as your farming skill but no stat. Essentially, the seeds you get from a plant are + or - 1-5 quality. So q3 plants can produce q1-8 seeds. Farming acts as a softcap in that with 3 farming, you can only harvest up yo q8 seeds. You will keep getting q1 seeds until your crops and your skill improve a bit.

The softcap causes the seed to be lower quality when you harvest it with too little farming. It averages the two values, so if you harvest a Q20 seed with 10 farming, you will get a Q15 seed. Each plant you harvest produces the +/- values for each seed, so if you plant a Q3, it'll generate Q1 sometimes. It might even do it more often if the range of possible quality includes numbers less than 1, so you could still get 0, -1 and -2 but they'll be forced to Q1.

Your first goal should be to get 10 farming, just to meet base Q10. 40 is a good target beyond that.
