Making a mine

Postby Zakorski » Tue Sep 07, 2010 4:52 am

Hello, sorry if this has been covered, I couldn't find anything quite like what I want to know in the forums, and the Wiki is more number crunching than explanatory. Basically, how do I make a mine and gain access to minerals? I would like to make a mine, but all I know is you need some rustroot... Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Step 1: Get High Perception and Exploration
Step 2: Find Rustroot
Step 3: Extract Rustroot with water into a clay jar
Step 4: Travel to somewhere in the world that hasn't been picked over with a fine tooth comb (Usually the edges)
Step 5: Use Rustroot extract in caves, mudflats, and/or mountains
Step 6: Maybe find a mine
Step 7: ???
Step 8: Profit

And be prepared to get disappointed because you won't find anything in your first 10-50 attempts.

If you find something on your 51st attempt, you're still considered insanely lucky =)

Your best luck is inside caves nowadays. Caves at the edges of the world.

I got pretty much flamed on the Irc for saying something like that, seems like there are more above ground according to them.

What I want to ask is: If I find a cave and I'm pretty much sure there was a mine long time ago, will the mine still be there? I'm not really sure what should I look for and that cave is just huge. Do I have to find the mine via rustroot again? Could a mine be depleted and lost forever? I couldn't find this stuff on wiki.

Mines don't just go away, so it'll still be there.
It might be taken over by someone though.

If you built the mine, then you have to search for it. (you no longer can use rustroot to track it down)
If you didn't built it, then just look again with rustroot.

I was referring to unclaimed mines. If you're looking for claimed and/or abandoned mines, of course above ground is the better place to search for them.
