Mineing, prostpecting, and metal working

i was hoping someone could give me a run down on how these work

find a mine. get a character will full industry belief to dig the ore. put ore in a smelter and fuel with coal. metal bars come out

This explains it all, really. You'll need to explore a lot and prospect tons before you ever find a mine. You'd be better off just trading for metal because it's really not that expensive.
