Where are all the Caves

I walk for hours and never see a cave.. I even check behind trees and stones (by making the yellow outline appear, it will show up - right? Or do I need to chop the tree/runestone the boulder?)

They appear on the face of cliffs that face E or S.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.
