Ancestor Worship isn't working for me

I suicided, made a new character, got ancestral worship, but i can't offer something on the shrine?

Reason: your seeming inability to use anything but vague titles is a very weird problem!!!

first of all make sure it's something your ancestors want
then make sure it's your shrine
then left click the item and right click the shrine
