Hunting Foxes

Postby deMangler » Sun Oct 03, 2010 10:38 pm

Hi,
I am looking for advice on hunting foxes. Not having much luck finding any on the wiki or forum that does not assume knowledge I don't have. I am new to this game.
In the wiki it says to surround them with a ring of unbuilt fire signs, but I do not like to do that as it feels like an exploit and I don't enjoy it. It is too meta.
So any advice for a newbie on hunting foxes like a hunter rather than like a ninja estate agent?
:)

<edit>Doing a forum search on fox gave me nothing, however doing a search on foxes gave some hits, this was useful for combat in general and partly helps me out.

If anyone has any good advice from experience hunting foxes I am still interested though. It is their beady little eyes.......

Trap it inside a gate? There really isn't any way to hunt a fox without trapping it in something like construction signs unless you go Unarmed or Melee.

Read Dataslycer's guide.

Good advice.
I have had a lot of fun trying out his methods. I was looking for peoples experiences hunting foxes without trapping them.
Perhaps I will have to try to invent such a technique, or get killed trying. Maybe it is not possible for new players with low skills.

Foxes are generally the easiest opponent to fight in melee, if that's what you're looking for. They do not try to gain an advantage over you in combat so if you have a little bit of unarmed or melee (2-3x their level) you can float like a butterfly to gain combat advantage on them. Once you have that, dash to gain a bit of initiative (6) and see if you can hit them with a punch. If you failed to but still took a good chunk out of their defense, or if you did hit them, then flex (which requires the 6 initiative) until your attack bar is full again and punch again. When they're close to dead, finish them off by Knocking Their Teeth Out. If you barely scratched their defense bar with a full attack, you'll need 26 initiative, so you can use Opportunity Knocks x4 to drop their Defense to 0% before attack again. Repeat as necessary to kill them.

Lies, I've seen them gaining advantage. Just try to spam butterfly skill which gives fox a lot of initiative points. With that strategy about 20% of battles will fail because fox uses some skill (black shadow with eyes) which gives advantage.

Then my technique, which worked on foxes till melee 30 and for boars from then (i ended wihth melee 50 and still were able to fight out lvl X boar... and killed it :) :
Death or glory move (not mandatory, but gains ini much much faster)
Charge
keep using sidestep this will raise the heat of battle as well
build up ini to 20
opportunity knock 4times (meanwhile the ini will raise again if you are under death or glory)
if not ini 11 charge till ini 11 (but it should be already)
knock the teeth out
if not dead flex, knock, flex, knock, flex knock - win/die :)

This is All out Berseker techinque, but it really work as charm and the only prerequisity is armor so you survive without defence. Also it is quite fast way of killing, faster threetimse than the other defense oriented long-run techniques

Foxes will only use the black shadow with eyes if you're letting them hit you in the first place. If you keep your defense up and never let them land a blow, you can remain in combat indefinitely and they will never attempt to gain advantage on you. All they do is raise their attack and defense slowly until then. If you maintain high defense, you can be fighting them naked as they will never deal damage to you. This goes without saying though since everything gains combat advantage when they land a blow. This is compared to boars who will gain advantage over you whenever they feel like it even without landing a blow.
