Next Objective?

Postby Chisame » Sun Oct 17, 2010 5:44 pm

Hello, name's Chisame and been playing for a while, my friends dragged me in and I still have a nub setup =/

So far I've managed to build up a Pali wall with all crops except Beetroot, M/F Pigs, a Bull, Skills around 25, Stats 20+. My Beliefs lean towards being a farmer (crops at 30+), and I've started growing trees (though if someone could tell me the best way to grow them while saving space that'd be great, I think it's like the following image from what I read in the forums, but correct me if I'm wrong) I've also read up on some survival guides and we've started clearcutting the area around the town.

t = Tree, x = empty space (might need to notepad it)

Now there's two more people living with me and possibly two more joining in the future. I want to keep this small community going but don't know what to focus on next and if I should turn it from my landclaim-owned area shared into a full Village. I figure Silk and some source of Metal should be next, but should I instead focus on something and aim to trade at Constan? (never been there before)

yeah if you don't have a mine yet, chances are you aren't going to be able to get one.

if you want metal, some common goods to exchange for it are pearls, cavebulbs, linen, bricks, silk or pepper

full village is a necessity, for purposes of logistics and security.

I think your tree plan won't work because they are too close together. Also if they are planted in east-west rows, when you chop them they will land into the next tree, so you'd have to chop the whole lot at a time (which might be the plan I dunno). So I think staggering the row would work better. I'm not really efficient or precise about that sort of stuff though.

As far as a general objective now, I think if you can afford the LP investment, to establish a village ASAP. This will allow you to create an outgoing crossroad, which is a good way to have villagers inside a palisade (often a problem with new walled settlements, is people without keys can get trapped inside, but you can't give keys to everyone either). If getting the LP for it is a stretch, then explore your region, scouting for local resource sites and nearby trade contacts; it's possible you might want to relocate before raising an idol if there are worthwile resources the next valley over.

But either way, I'd suggest upgrading your industry, with as hq kilns and clay as you can, and maybe think about taming cows to start milk production. Once you get an idea of what's in your region and who is around you can better decide if you want to specialize in any particular industry.

The LP isn't the issue, I've saved up enough for the idol myself. I know about not giving keys out, I have an alt to do that at the moment and planned to build crossroads going only outside. There seems to only be Q30 soil near me and an abandoned mine that one of our member's landclaim is on and waiting for decay, will assume that isn't a good enough reason to stick to an area?

Can't find any clay above Q11 as of this moment, nor water above Q10. Around us is mostly forest, a river up north and a mountain southeast.
