How do you make a large boulder?

I'm not talking about the giant rocks that are already built into the environment, but I've seen smaller boulders that you can lift and carry around.

How do you make these?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just curious because I can't figure it out.

They're the by-product of digging a cellar.
