How to play with friends?

Hey Hearth community, just now started into this game. I'm a bit confused on how to do things though. My gf and I are trying to play together, but I don't understand the Hearth Secret thing? Do we both enter the same "secret" at the beginning during character creation to the guy in the corner? Or some other way? I've seen and have the Startup guide, this is all I need to know how to do. Thanks guys! Can't wait to get started.

one of you needs to start normally, then bring up your kin list (ctrl + b), enter a hearth secret for yourself at the bottom, then the other one needs to enter that to the guy in the corner of the character creation room.

The Hearth Secret won't save. I click "set" and the cursor continues to blink. Does it save automatically even though the cursor blinks?

Yeah, it's fine, AFAIK. The blinking isn't a bad thing. To be absolutely sure, log off and then log on again, and open your kin window - if it's still there, it should be set.
