Attacks, Moves & Maneuvers

1.1: Attacks
Attacks are standard patterns of attacking that, once activated, will be repeated indefinitely in a fight, as long as their specific conditions, if any, are met. They differ from Instance Attacks, which are only performed once.

Arrow Shot
Image
Hotkey: w
Conditions: None
Required Equipment: Bow and Arrow.

Chop
Image
Hotkey: C
Conditions: None
Required Equipment: Axe.

Punch
Image
Hotkey: P
Conditions: None
Required Equipment: None.

Sting
Image
Hotkey: S
Conditions: None
Required Equipment: Sword.

1.2: Instance Attacks
Instance attacks are powerful attacks that have a high probability of succeeding, causing massive trauma to any and all opponents. They differ from regular attacks in that they are only performed once upon activation, and in that they more often that not come with an activation cost.

"Knock his teeth out!"
Image
Hotkey: K
Required Equipment: None
Conditions: Two points of initiative
Effect: A punch that deals quite a bit more damage than normally, and with a x10 modifier to chance of succeeding.

Cleave
Image
Hotkey: l
Required Equipment: Axe
Conditions: Three points of initiative and three levels of combat advantage
Effect: A massive axe blow. Deals a metric assload of damage, but requires a longer cooldown duration than normally.

Strangle
Image
Hotkey: g
Required Equipment: Empty hands.
Conditions: Battle intensity less than four
Effect: Deals more damage than a normal punch, has a high probability of succeeding, but costs a lot of stamina.

Valorous Strike
Image
Hotkey: V
Required Equipment: Some melee weapon (axe or sword)
Conditions: Full combat advantage
Effect: Has a high probability of succeeding, deals a lot of damage and gives two points of initiative, at the cost of giving up your combat advantage.

1.3: Combat Moves
Combat Moves are actions that are performed once upon activation in order to gain some specific advantage in a fight by manipulating one or more of the fight variables.

Consume the Flames
Image
Hotkey: n
Required Equipment: None
Conditions: None
Effect: Reduces battle intensity to zero at a cost of SHP damage to the amount of 1% of your maximum HP per point of intensity reduced. Each point of intensity reduced in this way also restores one point of stamina to the character performing the move.

Fan the Flames
Image
Hotkey: F
Required Equipment: None
Conditions: None
Effect: Increases battle intensity by five points, but costs 20% stamina.

No Pain, No Gain
Image
Hotkey: a
Required Equipment: None
Conditions: None
Effect: At a cost of 50% of your currently remaining SHP you gain two initiative points.

Opportunity Knocks
Image
Hotkey: O
Required Equipment: None
Conditions: Two points of initiative
Effect: Opportunity knocks costs two initiative points to activate, but gives you five back if successful.

Push the Advantage
Image
Hotkey: u
Required Equipment: None
Conditions: Some level of combat advantage
Effect: By giving up your (entire) combat advantage you gain initiative points at a 1:1 exchange ratio.

Sidestep
Image
Hotkey: i
Required Equipment: None
Conditions: Three points of initiative.
Effect: Pushes the combat balance five steps in your favor.

2.1: Maneuvers
Maneuvers are patterns for responding to an attack. For every attack, the maneuver that the target of the attack has chosen is consulted to see if the attack hits or misses. Different effects may be triggered depending on whether the attack hit or missed.

Dodge
Image
Hotkey: d
Conditions: None
Characteristics: None
Effect on hit: None
Effect on miss: Has a 10% chance of conferring an initiative point to the attacker.

Shield
Image
Hotkey: s
Conditions: Having a shield equipped.
Characteristics: Blocks 150% as good as an ordinary maneuver.
Effect on hit: None
Effect on miss: Has a 7% chance of conferring two initiative points to the attacker.

Bloodlust
Image
Hotkey: b
Conditions: None
Characteristics: Virtually never blocks an attack.
Effect on hit: Gives the defender a balance bonus proportional to the amount of damage taken.
Effect on miss: None

Death or Glory
Image
Hotkey: g
Conditions: Being in a combat relation where you are more than 3 steps disadvantaged.
Characteristics: Blocks only half as good as an ordinary maneuver. Slowly transfers the balance to the side of the defender.
Effect on hit: If the defender takes any damage from the attack, he will gain 1-3 initiative points, but the damage will be amplified to 175%.
Effect on miss: Has a 10% chance of conferring an initiative point to the attacker.

Combat Meditation
Image
Hotkey: m
Conditions: None
Characteristics: Blocks only a third as well as an ordinary maneuver. However, the cooldown from the user's attacks will be lessened to one half the usual as long as the battle intensity is less than 4.
Effect on hit: None
Effect on miss: Intensity is lowered dramatically, and there is a 10% chance of conferring an initiative point to the attacker

I just started the game and don't seem to have access to any of the basic attacks. I skilled up in hunting and now I have access to arrow shot, but no bow and arrow to use.

And archery to fletch arrows and craft a bow ;)
Didn't try the bow yet though, so you might need the quiver. That needs a couple skills too just to craft that.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

You don't actually need the quiver in order to use the bow, it's just an extra bonus.

When shooting arrows, you can have arrows in your inventory, and they will be shot. Obviously, though, you can't fit more than 8 arrows in the inventory, while the quiver can fit 40 arrows. To use the quiver, you'll need to equip it, as well. If you have a quiver equipped, the bow will not shoot arrows from the inventory.

What does Storm of Swords do?

Edit:

It costs two initive, but when you use it, it makes you attack 3 times (maybe 4), which is awesome.

I'd like to see some more detailed explanation of skills including the stats that affect them and the actual fighting mechanics, like things affecting combat balance or how you gain initiative points.
