Cave clay

Postby Seriyu » Wed Nov 03, 2010 3:42 am

A few questions in looking for it, one, can shallow water and deep water be in the same cave? So far the only caves I've found have only had deep water and no shallow water. And if I find shallow water in a cave, is there guarenteed to be a quality node in it, so I can get more then one cave clay from it?

Cave Clay is a forgeable item like gray clay. It's found in shallow water in caves. It also has a chance to fail the forage, depending on your industry/nature slider. All items found in caves are q10. There are no quality nodes.

Hmmm, I see. If I always succeed in getting gray clay, I'll always succeed in getting cave clay, right?

Yes. Also if you have a somewhat low perception*exploration value try logging off and on while standing in the shallow water. I did this once and found clay I couldn't see before.

I had this thought before, knowing that my perc*expl was low and I was capable of seeing things like inkweed but didn't often see the ones that my friend would see. I hypothesized that the spawnpoints happen whether you can see them or not and it's based on a chance when you enter that portion of the map. Thank you for confirming something like that for me.

That's exactly how it happens. Some time ago when my perc*exp was lower I saw someone in a boat having a weird behaviour in shallow lake water. Turned out he was gathering mussels I just couldn't see.

I'll have to remember this when I get to the cavebulb level of foraging. Check cave for bulbs, log out and back in, check again! :-) Speaking of, how often can you actually fond cavebulbs with the appropriate stat*skill?

For cavebulbs, I can find rustroot which is pretty well above cavebulbs I think, and I'm still not seeing them particularly often. When combing a nearby cave for shallow water I found three during the entire thing. They kinda blend in though, so that probably wasn't helping.

And I'll remember the logging in/out trick for when I finally find some shallow water. :)

That's because cavebulbs are quite rare, otherwise they wouldn't have the highest trading value of all foragables (well that and they give rare FEP). I think you see them less often than you see rustroot.

Of course there's always the chance that someone already combed the cave not long before you.
