Palisade gate trouble

Postby Tonkyhonk » Wed Nov 03, 2010 9:57 pm

hi there. any trouble shooters for palisade gates?

we have already built a few of them and never had a problem before, but today, one of the villagers tried building a gate and couldnt. i went there and tried myself and i couldnt either.

we have 2 cornerposts, unsealed, with 2 empty paved tiles in between. the options of "Make Gate to East" and "Make Gate to West" are available from the cornerposts we have, but when we actually click the option, either side, the message comes as "You cannot build that there." and wouldnt let us build a gate.

any possible problem we are experiencing here that you can think of?
what are we doing wrong this time that never happened to us before?

I have had this problem when building roundpole fences. No idea what caused it, but I think it's topographical.

Are there any planted crops by the gates? I had this problem myself once and it cleared when I harvested the crops by the gate (I also paved the tile incase the crops stop the newly built gate from opening and closing.)
Save our trees. Say NO to clear-cutting.

It was just clear fields and paved paths for the fence/gates. I never corrected the issue, the cornerposts are still waiting for me to figure out what the issue was so I can put in the gates.

I've noticed it sometimes requires a specific tile on front of or behind the gate to be paved, for some reason. Try paving those four tiles and trying to build the gate again.

In case you placed the cornerposts on the grid (not holding shift while placing both of them, or the starting cornerposts which you extended to the two you are at):

Did you also pave the 4 tiles directly touched by the two tiles between the cornerposts?

thanks all. ill check the nearby tiles later when the server is up again.

Yes, THIS is it :!:
Thank you all again, paving all the tiles touching directly solved it and allowed us to build a gate :P

not sure about the grids...i hardly use +shift to build anything, but i guess i should from now on to be safe? i had always thought i could only pave tiles as each grid allows.
ill ask the starter of this palisade in case if he has +shift built the cornerpost when he is back on, though i kinda doubt he has...

When you hold SHIFT while building you unsnap from the grid, holding it while placing suff snaps it to the grid.

So best is never to hold shift when building walls.
