Join civilization?

So, I'm just getting into the game, it's pretty confusing, but I think I've got the basics down, I've been living like a hermit in the middle of nowhere, and I have to say, it get's pretty boring on my own.

I was considering moving somewhere with a bit more life around, maybe into a town, but I wanted to make sure it was wise first.

So, a few questions:

1. Would any place take in a nublet like me?
2. Should I build up some kind of skill first that I can offer the town/village/whatever? And if so, what?
3. How do I even get there? Or should I just start a new character? I find traveling long distances to be extremely dangerous and monotonous.

Any other info that might be useful would also be appreciated, thanks. ^,..,^

1. Yes there are towns out there taking in newbs. Make a good post in the dwarves & thieves forum, stating your goals, some details about you, whatever you want to play as (farmer, miner etc), timezone, what you expect your future village to be/have and whatever else you find important. Everything written in decent english and you should find a good place. Note that a good post count and reputation is often better for finding a village than high in-game skills. And 20 good quality posts are better than 1000 spam and shitposts. I'd also advise you to get rid of the huge signature.

2. Farmers and Cooks are always wanted, but honestly do something that you actually find enjoyable. In the long run that's better for everyone.
And it will earn you huge sympathy points if you're willing to do boring tasks like repairing, burning bricks etc.

3. Yeah you can kill yourself and start over. Or, if you have good enough strength, destroy your hearthfire, let your new village invite you, and port to the Village Idol without any travel weariness requirements.

I took out the signature, I liked it, but if it annoys people, then it kind of defeats the purpose of it being there in the first place.

I guess I'll mill about the forums a bit and strike up some conversation here and there, or join in on some, make myself a little more known, etc.

And thanks to whoever changed the title of this thread, because I know I didn't do it, and it looks better this way. xD

Oh, and just as a side note while we're on the subject, how big/small should/can signatures be?
