Well, basically every crime [trespassing, stealing, battery, murder] ect.. leaves scents
Exploration x Perception = Chance to find scents [As of when someones looking for the scent]
Stealth x Intelligence = Chance to hide scents [As of when the scent is left]
Then the difference between the 2 is taken, and with a small amount of randomness a check is done to determine whether or not a person looking for scents finds them.
ie.. a thief with high intelligence and stealth can steal/murder people and a person with low perception and/or exploration wont be able to find their scents.
Thus people who throw lots into intelligence and stealth can commit crimes with a great deal less likely of a chance of having their scents discovered.
A similar check is done whenever a person who found a scent [and has it in his inventory] attempts to track the criminal, the Directional pie [it points in the direction of the criminal] is more accurate or vague depending upon the various values.
